Yarra Brae Farm7 Yarra Brae Close, Wonga Park
Yarra Brae Farm has a picturesque balance of undulating country combining grazing paddock, native pasture and light bush. Soils are a light unimproved, suited for cattle, horses, or other grazing stock. The property is well watered with 9 main dams plus six troughs with mains water. There is a License to Irrigate (45 megalitres).
Enjoying great privacy, Yarra Brae could be developed as an exclusive country retreat for a discerning city dweller. The property also has excellent tourism potential. Close proximity to Melbourne CBD and airport, plus the rural ambiance, privacy, views, wildlife, the access to the Warrandyte State Park and Yarra River all combine to offer a rich and unique visitor experience.
Since the present owners purchased the property in 1986 it has housed a riding school and equestrian facility. Sitting beside the now 1,680 acres Warrandyte State Park, the many kilometers of riding trails and river frontage have proven a great attraction.
Improvements include a weatherboard homestead, historic stables and other machinery and farm sheds.
This section of the Yarra River was revered by Victoria’s original indigenous inhabitants for its natural beauty. A nearby river gorge was the acknowledged dwelling place of the great creator spirit itself - Bunjil the eagle.
The origin of Yarra Brae Farm dates the 1850’s when the then 1,021-acre property was one of Wonga Park’s largest river frontage grazing estates.
In 1941 The Hon Lewis Clifford (Lord Clifford 12th Baron of Chudleigh) purchased Yarra Brae Farm. Shortly after, Yarra Brae Farm and the neighbouring property Stan Brae were taken over for war service as combat training areas. Following WW2 the Clifford family allowed the Scouting Association access, to host the 1948-49 Pan-Pacific Scouts Jamboree. The Scouting Association eventually purchased that part of the property, known today as Clifford Park.
Offered for sale by Expressions of Interest with a closing date of Tuesday the 17th of April at 5pm this significant rural holding is available for inspection through RT Edgar Yarra Valley.
