It was a very disappointing end-of-season auction night for many of the teams on The Block Glasshouse, with couples calling the finale an “anti-climax” that left them “pissed off”. The health of the reality TV show property market was put into question when the resulting prices netted for each apartment became the most uneven in Block history. The ‘fizzer’ auction was reportedly considered such a downer that the show’s planned lavish after-party was cancelled, the contestants opting for a “quiet beer” together instead. Brothers Shannon and Simon ended up the victors, with their apartment sold via Jellis Craig nabbing a winning bid of $1.9million – a huge $335,000 above their reserve price. The Block announces the fans and favourites in first series of 2014

Fans of reality TV renovation contest The Block have much to celebrate in the new year, as 2014 will be another year with two versions of the hit series. The more traditional Block format will occur later in the year, while new format Fans Vs. Faves will begin airing in January. As the title suggests, the show will pitch former Block contestants against avid fans of the show in a bid to see who has the greater renovation skills (once again in Melbourne). And this week, those teams were announced.
